Thanks - she is! Had a meeting yesterday and is going to have him help facilitate this. She definitely doesn’t want to mess it up. |
My work authorization came in within 6 months; likely your AP would have to wait until then and/or she finds a fam that pays her cash. |
I’m an American and was an au pair for a summer in a foreign country. I loved the idea of falling in love with someone in that country especially if it led to marriage and another option to live permanently in another country. A lot of my American friends who studied abroad ended up meeting and marrying someone and got dual citizenship - for young people it’s a romantic concept and opens additional doors to live in other countries. I have no problem with people gaining citizenship in the US because we certainly benefit. As a millennial I’ve accepted that I won’t get my full social security since we aren’t able to fully fund it with our current population growth - we need immigrants. Rant over. |
Our au pair from 5 years ago got married and she just had her first baby. This is an ideal outcome, IMO. Its like having a younger sister and it's been great for our family that she stayed in the US. |
I’m not sure why this is complicated. My sister married a Ukrainian guy who was here in a J1 visa. He was the lifeguard at her pool. He overstated his visa, she married him and they live happily ever after. Sure thetr was paperwork and a bullshit interview, but she essentially married someone who was here illegally at that point. This was 16 years ago though.. |
I was on a student visa during a semester abroad in Brazil when I was 21. I almost stayed to marry my Brazilian boyfriend but I would have had to relinquish my US citizenship. I couldn't do that. That was 2 decades ago and we are still in regular touch. It is so wonderful to be that AP age and have it work out. |
2 of our 6 APs got married and are still here in the US. One is back somehow and we do not ask questions. It happens a lot. |
