I knew he had a side biz of painting homes and I gave it to him when he suddenly showed up at my door. I made him sign a statement saying it was a loan. Little did I know he would stop showing up thereafter and take the attitude of why can't you let go of $400, I'll pay you when I can, you never gave me holiday bonuses. He could have just showed up 4 times to repay the loan instead of disappearing. The irony is that I was about to recommend him to my husband's coworker who needed weekly cleaning for a huge house.

Dishonest people don't want to work hard for money. With his attitude, I wouldn't be surprised if he stole from you while he was cleaning your house. People like him justify taking your money because they think you are so rich, you can afford to give some of it away. FYI, painters get partial payments from their clients to pay for paint and their crew's wages. He took advantage of your kindness and naivete.

Anonymous wrote:Hi,

We hired a babysitter to pick our kids up from school a couple of months back. We have known her for only 2-3 weeks during which when she picked up our kids a few afternoons. She left us saying she found full-time work. After that she called us one day saying she desperately needs to borrow a couple of thousand bucks! I am wondering whether to help her because she really needs help or if it is a kind of a scam. Has anyone else recently experienced this?

Thanks!

Really? She doesn't even work with your kids anymore, you hardly knew each other, and you're asking if you should "loan" her a few thousand dollars??

You're either a troll or ignorant. Which is it this time?

Say you don't have that much to loan. And if you did you would need paperwork for her to sign. I'd be insulted if my own family even my own parents asked for loan that big. You owe her nothing!

What did you decide, OP?
