If you cannot afford an educated, experienced and organized nanny for your child who will teach your child and structure their day to the child's best advantage than you are better off with daycare. Of course all employees deserve both COL and merit increases every year. Consider that as well when looking for a true nanny.

Daycare for 2 kids can cost as much as a nanny and if you have 3 kids, a nanny is a downright a steal.

Especially if she can also teach the kids Spanish. I'd gladly pay $12-13 an hour for that.

This is a government pay scale idea of COL vs merit. Most private sector employers do not make a distinction and raises are not necessarily annual.

No private sector employer that I have ever worked for has denied a COL increase annually. For lower income workers rent is generally increased every year even in rent stabilized buildings.

I work exclusively for families with 2+ children from 6 months up to 18 years, and prefer families with 4+. Daycare for large families is too expensive, the parents have to get the kids to/from daycare, and preteens and teens typically have activities (daycare doesn't do transportation to/from after school activities). Overall, the families know the pros and cons and feel it's worth paying for my food, providing living space and a vehicle for my exclusive use, and paying me a decent salary with good benefits, including a raise at least once a year.
