Typical Nanny Duties and "Light Housework"

If parents want the focus on their children (newborn to preschool ages) they need to take that into account before listing off housework for nanny to do. A good rule of thumb or parents is this: Could you do the job completely by yourself for a week and pay more than minimal attention to your child(ren)? If not, then neither can your Nanny.

Another thing parents should be aware of is falling into the trap of expecting Nanny to cover childcare "cleaning" 24/7/365. If parents can't or won't occasionally put away clean folded laundry or empty a diaper pail after Nanny has cared for an ill or fussy child all day, they will have a hard time keeping nannies.

The problem is that people assume that because the child is taking a nap you’re not working, and that’s wrong because you are working otherwise you’ll be at your own home, so it’s not your fault that’s the advantage of being a nanny you get free time and is well needed working with kids it’s Tiring and everyone knows it. There’s a lot of families that want to take advantage and have you do house work and that’s not your job.

No mopping, no vacuuming. Only clean bit more than light housekeeping if you want, the children are first.

It's fking DISGUSTING when parents cooks every night and I have to wash the dishes so I can find the kids spoons for my day. They never clean it for me bit I do for them. Some nannies should stop being nice and find better families

I don't know any single of my friends nannies illegal and legal who had accepted or do all of those chores; Housekeeping chores and also being a nanny. Norm is that nannies are responsible for child-related tasks only, and it's up to them to manage their own time during naps.

Well said. Wonderful comment. How come you read my mind and wrote exactly what was in my mind. THIS DOESN'T HAVE TO DO ANYTHING with the Nanny status. All my friends in the Nanny field do not take those cleaning chores. A nanny is a Nanny and a maid is a maid. Just let's PP keep dreaming in her mind LOL.

This thread is atrocious to say the least. You all are a bunch of lazy privileged stepford wives who can’t stick to the contract. Nannie’s duties are only CHILD related. Loading and unloading a dishwasher isn’t child related, putting away dishes isn’t child related, mopping floors, dusting, cooking for the family, organizing, doing the family’s laundry all those things aren’t CHILD related and it does fall under HOUSEKEEPING category. You people are disgusting using that as a way to decide wether or not a nanny is worth keeping longer than preschool age or not. How about find some balance within your home between work, spa dates, hubby time, running errands and housekeeping so that it all doesn’t feel like a task and your nanny doesn’t get held responsible for the things you women can’t do YOURSELVES. Loading and emptying the fusion not a nanny's job unless it is ONLY. Dishes used by children. Keep up your job creep and you'll be looking for a new nanny.

Why do you wash their dishes? I would bring a plastic spoon to feed the child. Leave their filthy dishes just the way you found them.

American women under age 50 are lazy and shiftless. Horrible parents to their accessory children.
