OP I do think you should let her know why so she can learn from it. If you just didn't like her for some nondescript reason that would be different. This is important and she needs to know it's not ok.

Op here.... I just talked to her and she didn't deny it. Didn't really appoligize eitther but says she understood. She asked me to recommend her and then called me back and said never mind. Weird, but at least it was easy. Thanks everyone.

OP, I hate to say this, but you are entrusting your children to a person with very poor judgement. I think you also have poor judgement if you keep this woman. She's no nanny.

This actually makes a lot of sense, safety precautions have changed a lot since someone that age was of chid bearing years. Even if she's been working with kids all that time, her perception of safe/not safe may be drastically different.

I'm going to be honest.

I think you were rightfully scared for your kids, and as a result took the advice of the posters on here.

You should have certainly put your nanny on probation, but firing. Not necessary.

Oh my gosh OP! I am a nanny and a parent too. This is really unacceptable. Never ever leave the child unattended esp. Near the water. You should have a serious talk with your nanny. Just by reading this freaks me out. Do you think you can still trust her if she is alone with your kids? Use your instincts. If u think she isn't a good fit, it's probably time to look for another cautious and responsible nanny.

OP I hope you get a better nanny next time. Since you actually have a pool in your yard this will come up often. Please ask prospective nannies open ended questions about water safety during your interview.

The fact that she asked you for a recommendation after you fired her FOR CAUSE seals the deal - you made the right decision, OP. This woman has no judgment.
