I just worked my last day as a nanny - AMA RSS feed

(yes I am being cheeky with the AMA since there seems to be a resurgence of those threads on the main boards)

But really... I'm done! I'm free! Back to clean clothes and adult conversation. Don't get me wrong, I'll miss the kids like crazy, but this feels sooooo good.

I think nothing feels as good as the last day of work (unless you're fired out of the blue, of course). It's like school getting out for summer.

Got any tips for job hunting outside the field? I have great and varied experience but am not 100% sure where to start after having nannied the past few years.

Congratulations! Tomorrow is my last day as a nanny. It's been a great 14 years, but it was time to move on towards the new career goals I set for myself. I will still be working with young children in early education, but in a different capacity that will help me achieve those goals.

I've been a nanny for many years and going to school for another career field. I would like to stop nannying all together, but unsure how to make that transition. I need a good enough job to keep close to my salary now but I know that it's much harder to find a job when all you've done is nanny. Can you share any tips please?

OP here - unfortunately I'm probably not the best person to offer advice on switching careers after many years as a nanny. I'm in my early 20's and only nannied for 2 years while I took time off from school. In 2 weeks I'll be a full time student and part time liquor store employee, which is pretty much the dream for me right now.

You are in a stage of life where working as a nanny probably isn't the most ideal job choice for you since you will be in school full-time.

I have 20+ years on you and my children are grown and have flown the coop so for me, I find working as a nanny very rewarding since I have yet to have a grandchild as of yet.

I wish you the best in your future endeavors.

You have your whole life still ahead of you! The best is yet to come.
