Exercising during nap time RSS feed

Would it be inappropriate if I used the treadmill at work during naptime? I work long days and my
Boss knows I have downtime during naps (she isn't a crazy DCUM parent who knows I need a break and doesn't expect me to work every second of my 12hr day). I have no time when I get home to exercise and waking up before work isn't an option because I have a long commute. I'd also have to shower after the treadmill. I've been with the family 4 years but would feel weird asking even though I know they would say yes... Thoughts?

I wouldn't without asking.

You should ask.

DC's nanny asked me to use my weights to exercise during the nap time. It's not a big deal - she's free to do whatever during the down time.

Using your boss's shower at their home is weird. I would be uncomfortable with my nanny doing that.

I'd ask but can't imagine my bosses having an issue with it.

Why? Is she inherently dirtier than you or any guests you have? You really should ask yourself why, because it speaks to a nasty prejudice you may want to work on.

I workout during nap time, and shower after. My MB knows. Not a big deal. If I don't get a chance to work out I'm antsy and impatient, so it really is best.

Yes to the treadmill but no to the shower. Get power shower wipes from a sporting goods store. I used those when I biked to work and they really do work. Showering there brings up the issue of who will clean the bathroom that you use every day...

MB here - agree with the above, though if they have a cleaning service/housekeeper it is less of an issue. Also if you are the only adult in the house I would be concerned that you are not alert to any issues with the child/in the home while showering and getting dressed. This is why so many moms on mat leave/who stay at home look so unkempt, they don't have an opportunity to shower!

This sounds okay in theory but what happens if the kids wake up mid- workout? Or mid-shower and you don't hear them? How old are the kids? How would you handle that?

I wouldn't do this without asking.

You would be cleaning your shower anyway, no? Do you also have an issue with your nanny using your toilets? This isn't the 1950's people.

MB here. This would all be more than fine with me, but I would want the courtesy of being asked.

In my previous position, I would use the elliptical during nap time and then shower after. I was a live in though so
I had my own bathroom. The baby slept for 3 hours so I would use the elliptical for 45 minutes after I put her down and then take a shower right after. I think she only ever woke up 1-2 times while I was working out and one time she fell back asleep after a couple of minutes and the other time I just hopped off and went to soothe her. My bosses had no problem with me doing this but I did ask beforehand to make sure it was okay.

Seriously? How would you handle a child waking up?

Tell me, PP, do you sit silently during naps waiting for your chrge to awake?
