Is Care.com actually charging its Nannies to use the website now??! RSS feed

I know that on Care.com families must pay a membership fee to utilize the service to find a caregiver, but I was always under the general impression that the nannies could post profiles and communicate with families for free. Their only expense would be the background check.

My sister recently created a profile and tried to contact some families for jobs and she told me it wouldn't let her until she herself paid Care.com a fee, not the background check fee.

I haven't used the service in over a yr. so can anyone verify if this is indeed fact?

Care.com is scum.

I haven't used the site in at least 10 months but at that point you could pay an optional fee to have your profile come up in the top for searches. If they added a mandatory fee then I won't be using it again.

I found my last three jobs on care.com and all were great jobs. I will be very unhappy if this is true. When I am actively looking for a job, I upgrade to a paid membership but never pay anything when I'm working and just want to stay listed.

It's still free for nannies to apply for jobs, however to contact families directly you need a membership.

Your sister doesn't sound very bright. The fee is optional. You can click past it. It's simply for them to bring your profile to the top of the list. That said I won't pay it because it doesn't seem worth it.

Sorry, but I find your first sentence hard to believe. Please share some details.

I'm on job 3, all of which were found on care.
Family 1, wonderful people to work for, downright amazing MB. I left only because MB was part of a RIF
Family 2, adorable baby, loved that kid with every fiber in me. Left because they wanted care for older DC, a hellion.
Family 3, beautiful family, baby twin girls, lovely MB

So because something has never happened to you, you find it hard to believe? What an interesting life you must lead...
I too have found 3 long term nanny positions off of care.com. It happens.

I found my current job through Care.com and the family is absolutely wonderful. MB & DB are kind, considerate employers who respect me as a professional. The little girl (5 yrs) I watch is adorable, sweet, quiet, and artistic. The twin boys (18 months) are happy boys with sweet dispositions who are two bundles of energy.
Care.com definitely gets its share of crazy families looking for a nanny but the families I interviewed with were all very pleasant.

I've found my last 4 jobs on care.com. The only reason the jobs ended were, kids started pre school, family moved, out of state, was a night nanny, and I'm still at the fourth one. Care is better than sittercity and I've found more down to earth people and people I have more in common with. I have never used an agency and don't ever plan on using one

Care.com is good but not so good that I would pay a fee. I have found excellent opportunities elsewhere for free.

I believe you can do everything for free as a provider except directly message families without jobs posted. It is free to "apply" which is basically just sending a message to the family, but you can only apply to jobs that are active. If you pay you could also message families that don't have any active jobs listed (which when you think about it is useless anyways.... if they don't have a job posted then they really aren't searching for a nanny or babysitter.)
