Anyone else removed from care.com? RSS feed

Anonymous
I recently went on and my account has been closed. I did report a couple of people offering under $5/hr, so I'm not sure if that was the reason. Their response is that they can remove anyone for any or no reason and are not obligated to tell me why. Now what? There are no agencies where I live and I plan to look for a new job within the next couple of months. Ugh! I have been a nanny for many years and have never received a position from word of mouth.

Get a different email address and make a new account. Problem solved.

OP this is what I did. I kind of hate care.com but they are the biggest and quickest job getting site out there. I got a speeding ticket like 9 years ago that I took to court to fight the good fight because the cop was in the wrong, long story short no one cared and I got a slightly lower level traffic ticket but now it shows up on my background check (while none of my other traffic tickets do.) So when a family ran a background check on me care.com flagged and closed my account. I called them and asked them to look at it, it was just a traffic ticket I took to court, they said they don't care. Having a traffic ticket is as bad as being a child molester in their eyes. I had a lot of reviews and stuff I lost but I just had to make a new account with all the same info and I tell perspective families I will do background checks through any agency but not care.com and I've never had a problem. I still get lots of work through them.

MB here.

I really wish there was a better site than care.com. I really can't trust a site that allows for an employer to choose such a low hourly rate (and illegal). It just puts such a sour taste in my mouth and I hate giving them my business.

OP, your experience makes me dislike them even more. Also, what kind of potential employer flags someone because a TIcKET showed up in their background check?

Out of the two of you, I guarantee one of you is a pain in the ass to work with and I'm sure you can figure out who.

Anyways, hope your new profile works out and you find a job quickly and can get off that crappy site

Im not OP but I posted the story about being removed from care.com. The care.com system flagged me and suspended my account, not the family that ran the background check. I actually went on to work for that family for 4 years because we had already exchanged email addresses and I emailed her to let her know what was going on.

The problem with care.com is the system is automated and they either don't have the staff to or tell their staff not to look into flaggings on a case by case basis. I clearly explained my situation and was told I could only get my account reinstated if I had the infraction removed from my background check within 90 days. Because there was no mistake to remove (the ticket was valid and I went to court thus it showed up on a courthouse records search) I had no recourse and my account was deleted 90 days later.

It's really annoying and they could be a really good company and website with a couple changes. They are really popular, it's a shame to see them become so crappy to deal with.

Sittercity?

So sorry this has happened to you OP.

What a sham...I cannot believe they closed you down for this.

I would create a new account on there with a new e-mail address and I would also go on Sittercity.com which is pretty comparable to Care.com.

I have similar jobs on there.

If you can, perhaps you can try Yelp and write a bad review on there.

OP here. I will try the new account/email route. I have to type in my full name and I think my social for background checks, so I do not understand how it will work to create a new account. Thanks everyone!

Full name doesn't matter (imagine how many John Smiths there are) nor does address. The only thing you can't have the same as someone else is email. Well, SS# I don't know about because as I said above I never let another BG check be run through care.com, so I don't know what they would do, but you could try it. Make the account first with a new email, don't put in your social, and wait to do it until your first person requests a free BG check then put it in and see what happens. If you didn't get flagged for the same reason as me (a ticket I argued in court) then you should not have an issue. If you really were removed because of over-reporting then it should only be tied to your old account itself, not all the information it contained.

Update: I was unable to register with a different email address because my phone number, name, and DOB were all unchanged. What did others do? Lie?

If it told you that then they have made a lot of changes since I did it a couple years ago. Are you able to still log into your old account at all? Can you delete/change any of your real info from your old account so you can use it on your new account? Also don't supply a phone number.

Yes, care.com is still removing folks without warning or reason. I paid yesterday and was removed today with no warning or message. I just tried to login to find my account was gone. I didn't violate the rules of the site, and had just started reaching out to prospective hires. I've asked for my money to be refunded but don't expect them to do anything -- I will be contacting my credit card company to reverse the charges but it won't recover the time I wasted on this terrible website!

Same thing happened to me. 2 days ago I payed 16 for the premium 1 month membership and 59 for the background check, which I passed. Today, my account was canceled. I am so upset. A complete waste of money and absolutely no reason for my account to have been canceled.
