Ok, I'll bite. I agree that good childcare IS expensive and if you want a good nanny you should pay for it. BUT, if you are a nanny and want to make a decent living, be a good nanny. Prove your worth and find a job that pays what you deserve. There are certainly plenty of nannies out there with well paying jobs that they are happy with and I think the truly excellent nannies will tell you that they have no trouble finding a job. Posting an ambiguous post on an anonymous forum will not help you find a well paying job, nor will it educate or change the cheap parents out there. A parent who thinks they can get a "cheap" nanny (whatever that means to you) isn't going to read this and suddenly say "you know what, you're right, we aren't paying our nanny enough!"

Who goes on an anonymous forum and brags to everyone how they only pay their nanny ten bucks an hour and she is the best??!! That says a lot about your character and you have none. None.

One day your wonderful nanny will realize you are nickel and diming her and another family will swoop her up and pay her what she is truly worth.

Then we will see you on here weeping and complaining and asking us what went wrong.

Does give you a little insight into what some employers consider a great nanny-someone they can communicate with albeit clumsily, someone who shows up on time usually, someone who empties the dishwasher and when they get home at night, the kids still have two arms and two legs. A great nanny means different things to different people.
