People who don't show up to interviews RSS feed

I am hiring from care.com and don't know what is wrong with some of these people. Yesterday I had an interview and the person never showed up, or called to say they weren't coming. I also had a phone interview set up and the person never answered at agreed upon time, or called me back. Why set up an interview if you aren't going to follow through.

Are you a nanny or a mb?

Oops just re read and you said hiring. Sorry my bad. That's so crazy to me . At least you know not to hire that person if they can't even show up to an interview. Dodged a bullet as they say.

People suck, OP
I'm sorry you've had to deal with flakes. I had a PT MB tell me the same thing about appointments on care- people just don't show up/answer the phone. Such rudeness

Sorry OP. The parents on there can be flakey too.

Care.com allows anyone who thinks they want to take care of children/pets/seniors/homes to advertise their services.

Care doesn't check individual backgrounds or work history, so you're bound to get a much higher percentage of flakes on care or other such sites.

It's the chance you take going thru an employment clearinghouse that allows people to offer to pay $5/hour for jobs.

Well, it is unfortunate that they didn't show up or answer their phone. But it look at it this way, they just saved you a lot of time and grief, especially if you had ended up hiring on of them. Their responsibility right from the start shows that they are not the kind of people you will want to hire.

You know, nannydeb, I agree with you on the basic fact that there are probably a lot of wannabe flakes on care.com, but the internet is where people go to find jobs.

I tried hiring through a neighborhood listserv thinking that it would be better to find nannies who had already been loved by previous families, but I found a lot of families "overselling" their nannies (claiming they had skills they didn't, or neglecting to mention they didn't drive, or neglecting to mention major issues with schedule limitations) because they wanted so badly to find them a new job. When you're new to the area, it's also hard to judge the word of mouth.

The families who use agencies aren't thrilled with the selection they receive either.

Guess the good nannies really do deserve their $20/hr+ wages then, since as you say they're so difficult to find...

Hi, What are you looking for, I know a great Nanny that is looking for part time work. She came highly recommended to me.

I had an MB on care.com who called to set up and interview and then cancelled at the last minute. Fine... THEN, she called me a week later and asked me if I could pick her son up from school that day - that the teacher would tell me which kid he was - and take him to their house where the key would be under the mat. Understand I never met this woman or her child and she had no clue who I was. In a voice a little louder than normal, I said, "No! No, no - of course I will not do that and please never call me again!".

You don't have to hire the irresponsible nannies but children are stuck with irresponsible parents for life!

I agree Nannydeb.

Anyone who has Internet access which is basically anyone and everyone these days can create a profile on Care.com and/or Sittercity.com just like they can write an ad on Craigslist. They don't have to pay a red cent so it is nothing to them. They don't care if they don't show up...They don't lose anything from it.

If you want a decent and reliable nanny, your only option would be to contact a reputable nanny agency in your town. Sure, you will have to fork over some money for it, but it will be worth it for sure.

Even "reputable" agencies can be a crapshoot. As quality nannies are harder to find, the agency will not always have the best nannies available.

As someone who has found her last 2 families through Care.com I just want to let you know that it is possible to find a nanny through these sites. Unfortunately lots of people on care.com are not career nannies- they're babysitters who don't understand the difference.

I've gotten two part-time jobs and my current full-time job on care.com. I'm sure there are a lot of flaky nannies and flaky parents out there but I must have lucked-out - all three of my families have been wonderful.
