I need to know if this is a good offer from an Annandale, VA family for their newborn.
They pay $750/week, up to 50 hours/week. The hourly rate is $13.63. Overtime rate is $20.45. They give two weeks paid vacation (I can choose one week) plus federal holidays and up to one week of paid sick days. No non-baby related housekeeping other than to let the dog in/out of the yard. I want more vacation but they said they can only give two weeks. Is this good? I saw a nanny in Bethesda get more. |
What do you bring to the table? Any special skills or abilities? |
Bethesda and Annandale are two different cities and states... I saw a nanny get paid 30$ an hour in LA does that mean gonna make 30$ an hour in DC No... |
Some nannies do earn more than $30/hr., but of course they have specialized skills. |
Two weeks is standard. Are they offering any sick days?
We don't know your background to tell you if what they are offering is ok. If you are a new nanny, then what they are offering you is fine. If you have 20 years of experience, then you can ask for more. |
At $15 per hour average rate, plus 2 weeks vacation, paid holidays, and five days sick leave, this is a very standard package for a nanny with 0-5 years experience who will care for one child. If the vacation issue is a big deal, you could request that some of those sick days be usable as additional vacation days. |
Sounds like a perfectly normal, reasonable offer (as 1:13 laid out).
This is almost exactly where we started our nanny (in Kensington). We could offer a little more vacation flexiblity but otherwise the rates and benefits are very comparable. If you don't take the position they will have lots of reasonably qualified candidates who are interested. |
