Should I buy them a new one? RSS feed

As I was making homemade baby food for my charge this morning, I sat a hot pan on top of a plastic cutting board/sheet.
It melted part of it. Even though it's not an expensive item, I feel bad for ruining it.
What is the appropriate thing for a nanny to do in this situation?
My bosses and I have a fantastic relationship and I want to keep it that way.

I would not expect the nanny to pay for it.

I would probably replace it, because I would feel bad, but I can also see my bosses insisting that I not worry about it. You made a mistake while doing your job. It happens, and is the cost of being an employer. Just explain it, and offer to replace it.

I would appreciate that my nanny offered to replace it. I would never let her though. You accidentally ruined in while you were doing your job.

I would tell you not to worry about it if you openly told me what you did, apologized for it and offered to replace it.

I would expect my nanny (or anyone else who had done something like this that was a total accident damaging a cheap item) to tell me they had done it when I got home, sincerely apologize, and to say "where did get it so I can get you a new one?" And then I would say of course don't worry about it. Not a big deal, you were doing your job and just made a mistake. I think it would bug me if you didn't offer to replace it though.

OP here. That's what I figured. I know they would insist I not buy a new one. I'll try not to make it a habit. Thank you all for your advice!

I'd explain and offer to buy a new one. I would still replace it and buy a pot holder too even they insisted i didn't. But i have a werid thing about "owing" people stuff, I never want something to be used against me (those are my personal issues tho).

I'd probably text or email the moon during nap time and ask where they got it,explain how I ruined it, and say I want to get a new one in my way home tonight.

I would offer but I would decline. Those things happen to Everyone. No big deal.
