what to wear ?? RSS feed

My new employers asked if I could come with them to a family wedding. It will be small under 20 people. I'll be looking after my charge (a newborn).

What is the best attire??
I don't own slacks or skirts only jeans and a few dresses (that are more for me going out at night dresses).

I don't want to go out and buy clothes but I want to look nice and also be comfy at the same time.

I would honestly invest in a basic sheath dress or wrap dress. You can dress them up or down as needed for different occasions and they're appropriate for just about every event possible (sans black tie). And you can find them at pretty much every price point. Dress barn is my go-to for work appropriate dress clothes that don't break the bank.

+1. You may even have a wedding in your family to go to sometime.

You should buy a plain inexpensive skirt to wear, in order to look nice and be comfortable.

I agree with the first pp, bit want to add a nice pair of black slacks and a blouse or two would also be good additions and would be equally appropriate. I would ask mb what the dress code is and go from there. you can get something on eBay or any clearance rack.

My dear deluded child, you are going as the help. Black skirt/slacks, long sleeve white blouse.

I found gray pencil skirts and black foldover skirts at Old Navy for about $20. You can put this whole outfit together for WELL under $100.

They have a nice jersey wrap skirt for $30.

Agree.... without the patronising tone.

I would not wear a dress. Black slacks and pretty blouse. You can always use it for future interviews too.

OP, be very clear with your MB that the only child you will cate gor is her child. I used to cayer and have seen it happen many times one nanny being saddled with care of all children and no extra pay.

why do you even have to attend the wedding if it's with a new born. this shit makes me so mad. some people just like bringing their nanny because it's a status thing.

MB here. I brought my nanny to an out of town wedding because the bride begged me to attend, and I wasn't ready to leave the newborn yet.
