We've been in rematch almost a month now. Haven't found a single candidate we've been interested in and our LCC has only found three that met our requirements. Was December just really slow or is this normal? How long did it take you to find candidates and then to actually match?
The one year we went into rematch in December, we looked for a rematch ap for six weeks and ended up giving up and begging my mil to move in with us for six months to get us back onto a summer matching schedule. Granted, we needed infant qualified in those days, but cc simply did not have a single iq ap who also could drive in their rematch pool.
We got lucky and re-matched within 3 days. She took the train to us 2 days later. This was with CC in March of that year. We were going to look out of country but it didn't come to that. The rematch AP had a good remaining 11 months with us.
We rematches last march. Agency recommendations were lousy-e.g.one issue was that we needed a good driver. Rematch agency called me about had two accidents. Ended up with a year 2 extension candidate who we adore. We did have to wait until summer though. For summer care I used a college kid in our neighborhood- which was another disaster
In my situation, I probably could have had a new AP as soon as my current one moved out. There were a few that needed new families in the area but I wanted to wait and find the right one as opposed to rushing into a more convenient match. The new AP is arriving in late February and I have a sitter on stand-by to make up for the 6 weeks in between. I'm very happy with the choice.

I am considering rematching soon...and am worried about finding another AP.
I thought Jan was a boom time after the holidays...but my friend who is in rematch right now also says there's no candidates she's interested in... |
What if the next one is even worse? |
I've heard January is a good time to rematch - and that should be starting as of today since last week wasn't a full week. The agencies are closed on holidays too. I'll let you know if it starts picking up this week, but December was most certainly completely inactive.
not familiar with the aupair process as I have no children, just wanted to offer that I am a nanny in the area looking for a live in position if you are interested
As an update, it took us about 5 weeks to find a rematch au pair we liked, and then of course 2 weeks after that for her to arrive. She's terrific, so I think it was worth the wait, but I would definitely advise any other host parents to prepare for a month or two with no child care in case of a rematch. Ours came out of the blue, so don't feel like it won't happen to you!
