Would you hire a very pregnant nanny? RSS feed

Anonymous
We're looking for a temporary nanny for twin infants. Just 1-2 months. We have had recommended to us a woman with twin experience but due in early February.

Should I be concerned about her keeping up with the babies, having doctors appointments, unexpected absense for complications, etc?

Appreciate any experience with this situation, thanks!

Nope, I would not. No way in hell.

I'd like to say yes, but - no.

Such a crappy situation....being pregnant and needing to find work, but no it sounds like a bad idea, unless you've met her and she's young with a lot of energy. What do you mean by very pregnant?

Due in February and you need her now? Probably not unless you know where you would find backup if she delivers early or has complications.

What's so great about her, OP? How well do you know whoever recommended her? Any other options? What's your backup plan?

No. But I also would not knowingly hire a pregnant woman in my office.

Isn't that illegal? For that to be the reason you don't hire her? I understand a private employer doing that, but what you're doing is really crappy. Do you avoid hiring women in general, because you know, they might get pregnant?

Mid stage yes if she seemed to be handling pregnancy fine and I needed her just a month or two. But not end stage - you have to go to the doc every week the last month normally. Plus it is way tiring to be 8 or 9 months pregnant and twins are exhausting enough. I just do not think it is likely anyone in that situation could keep up with newborn twins.

Nope. I have twins and even when they're infants and don't weigh much or move around they're still pretty relentless. You need a nanny who can not only handle the babies but also (hopefully) their laundry, some cleaning of bottles, etc... It's exhausting work. I wouldn't wish it on someone in their last trimester and I wouldn't feel comfortable asking (or trusting) that.

Good luck! (And congrats on the twins!)

That's illegal, jerk But then it is probably your loss

I got both of my last high end jobs while being pregnant. The very last one when I was like 7 months along. I run a department for a large corporation and I do not think anyone regrets their decision to hire me

I would because it's only temporary. you'd be doing each other a favor...no one will hire her but she still needs to eat and live indoors, and you'll have a hard time finding someone who will take a two month gig and not bolt as soon as a better offer comes along. Sounds like a good match to me.
