Contract for After-School Nanny? RSS feed

Anonymous
Hello Parents, before I start, I'll say I worked for a family as their after school nanny for 2 years and we had a contract. I am no longer with them because the circumstances changed so I assist them occasionally now. I was offered a new position and was told I'd have up to 40 hours during the summer and 20 hours while the kids are in school. It has been a week since the mom has sent me the offer and stated I am not needed until January after winter break. I emailed her back and said great! I also asked if she could come up with a contract including the girls holidays ect. I also mentioned if she had a concrete idea for the summer she can include those dates, if not, we can work on that later.. I am a bit concerned that maybe she's no longer interested in hiring me.. Yes, I understand the holiday just passed, but could she have sent a simple, "yes, I'll form a contract" and have done it later. Any advice will be appreciated.

When did she send the offer?
When did you reply?

Thanksgiving just happened. She might have been traveling or hosting friends/relatives. Give her some more time.

Hi, she sent the offer a week ago, I replied the same day.

OP, I'm an MB. I would never behave this way with a candidate in whom I was seriously interested. Either she's not serious (or reliable) or this is an indicator of what type of boss she'll be - probably not a very professional one.

I'd run the other direction if you don't really have to take this job.

I'm an MB. I agree with 22:29. I try to be very explicit with our nanny about hours we need her and give her as much notice as I possibly can because I respect her. She needs to plan her life outside of her hours working with us. I would NEVER not reply to a nanny candidate for a week. Even one I'm not planning to hire.

Sorry, OP.
