We are moving to Old Town Alexandria from Denver in a few weeks and will likely be looking for a professional nanny. Looking through care.com and sittercity, I've seen plenty of candidates but I was wondering if anyone had some advice on best practices for bringing a full-time nanny on. I would love to hear from mistakes made by first time parents or things that seem inituitive now but you had no idea about.
We are leaving a more laid back lifestyle (9-5 jobs with a great daycare) for a more demanding jobs, so if you have any other ideas on making the transition easier for our family like whether a cleaning service or other service is a good idea. Thank you! |
Congratulations on your new jobs!
How old are your children? |
We have a 15 month old and a baby due in May. We are still trying to wrap our heads around taxes, workers comp insurance, and other things. We haven't even figured out what the market rates go considering we have been quoted a varying amount of pay ranges (from $10 to 25). We'll likely kick in for health insurance, so we were looking for info on the health exchanges. It seems like a lot and I don't want to miss out on a major point/issue - hence why I asked about best practices, to-do lists, etc. |
Were you able to find someone? |
You should use a nanny tax service like Breedlove. Also let the nanny pick her own health insurance. She might already have health insurance and just pay all of it or a portion of it. My boss gives me the cost of my health insurance at the beginning of each month and it works out really well. |
