Going rate for babysitter and mother's helper RSS feed

What is a reasonable pay for a high school aged babysitter for one child (kindergartner)? How about a 14-year-old mother's helper for occasional after school help (I'm a WAHM). Thanks!

10 to 15 an hr

Closer to $8 - $10. You'll be there with this young teen, right? Are you going to have her doing kid laundry, cooking, tutoring, light cleaning? Or is she going to be there to play with your kid, period?

Start lower and then if she's fantastic give her a raise.

The mother's helper would just be tending to my five year old when she gets home from school for about an hour while I'm on conference calls, finishing up work, etc. $8-10 sounds like a reasonable starting rate.

I assume $15/hr is what I should expect to pay for a high school babysitter for the occasional nights out with hubby? Sorry for the basic questions but until recently we had tons of family members and grandparents who volunteered to watch DC so we never had to hire a babysitter.

My babysitter is a 45 year old woman and I pay her $15/hour. She makes them dinner, has given them baths and will do overnights. For a HS'er I would probably offer $10-$12/hr to start.

Mother's helper I think you are right for $8/hr and would go up from there. But, honestly, I always round up to the closest $10, so if she's only there an hour, I would give her $10.

These amounts are right on the money.

I would go with these figures.
