Nanny Needs Help With Biting, Pinching & Hair Pulling One-Year-Old:
The parents play a lot rougher with their one-year-old than I do. She thinks hair pulling and pinching is funny and the parents haven't discouraged this. Today after the unpteenth time of removing her hand from pinching me she got mad and bit me! I told the parents and they suggest an eye for an eye thing. That if she bites me hard, I bite her hard back and same for pinching and hair pulling. I need suggestions on how to stop this behavior when the parents don't seem to mind. |
| RUN, asap. You can't fix this serious disfunction. |
| If you think there's any hope for these parents, OP, you can try to educate them and see if they want to learn. |
| Calmly, and without reacting, tell her once that she may not behave that way. The next time, you need to remove her from the situation for a small "time out". She won't completely grasp the concept but she will be able to associate certain behaviors with an unwanted consequence. Above all, try not to react emotionally at all, this is what she is likely going for. |
| How many hours a week do you have her, OP? |
| Use your firm and serious voice to say "no pulling hair" as you remove her hand. The second time you remove her - set her in her bedroom or the far side of the playroom and walk away. She'll get the message within a week or two but you have to be consistent and unemotional. |
| Use a firm tone and tell her "We do not pull hair/pinch/bite. That hurts my body. We use soft touches." And then take her hand in yours and show you how to use gentle touches. |
? How's it going? |
| Let me guess. This one year old baby has had a number of nannies? |
You again? |
It's you who has nothing to say. Are you always so boring? |

Highly doubtful a one year old could have a number of nannies, resident troll.
The more important thing is that the one year old doesn't have a knowledgeable nanny now, which may be cause for replacement if nanny doesn't step up her game. Sadly, the only poster who knows what she's talking about it is 22:59. Start there, OP, and learn your craft. |
Why do you think it's doubtful that a one year old could have had a number of nannies? |

Why do you think she's had a number of nannies?
The child is acting pretty typically for her age. You don't know very much about children. I hope you aren't a nanny. |
