Finding housing and/or transportation for nanny-- NEED HELP! RSS feed

Anonymous
Hello,

We have a mutual love affair with our nanny, and she has decided that she would like to follow us to Maryland from New York. We live in a small-ish apartment and do not have room to have her live in, so she is looking for possible housing solutions nearby. We would love some help with either of the following:

a) nanny has a good housing option in Laurel, Maryland (a childhood friend has offered her a room for a very reasonable rate). However, she does not drive. Are there ANY public transport options from Laurel to Bethesda? Does anyone have a nanny who travels from there and who might be interested in a rideshare?

b) if Laurel option doesn't work, we would look for other housing options near a metro. Does anyone know where to look for single room or small studio/basement rentals? Does anyone know of someone who is looking to rent out a room? A nanny who is looking for a roommate?

Thank you in advance for any help!

What is her price range, approximately 1/4 of monthly gross, (I'm guessing)?

OP here-- $500-800.

This is pretty obvious but must be asked - is she not having luck w/ Craig's list? Finding a roommate would be the easiest way to stay in budget and not have a super long commute.

OP here-- Craigslist is hit or miss, but we are definitely trolling it for her. Thought I'd also try to find her a roommate through DCUM or another similar listserv (perhaps a neighborhood listserv?).

I don't know the MD area as well because I'm in VA, but there is absolutely no way you'd be able to find a basement or studio for $500-800. Her best bet is sharing a 2 bedroom or 3 bedroom apartment.

It would be easier if you didn't crosspost this in multiple forums. It gets confusing when trying to reply.

Please don't crosspost, OP.
