Ouch! Bee stings while babysitting RSS feed

Anonymous
Yesterday I was watching 2 elementary-aged kids. We went to take the dog for a walk on this nature path and it turns out there was a bee's nest inside a wooden step, sort of hidden so that we couldn't see it while walking down the trail. Luckily neither child got stung, but I told them to just run back up the hill where we had come from and wait for me at the top. I followed about 2 minutes later and we went straight back to the house. Thankfully the mom said that a little more TV today was fine while I iced my stings. When all was said and done, I found 6 bee stings on my arms, shoulders, back, neck, and thigh.

Has this sort of thing happened to anybody else? How did you deal with it? Right now, I'm thanking my lucky stars that a.) the kids didn't get stung, b.) I'm not allergic, and c.) I was watching elementary-aged kids instead of infants or toddlers.

Are you a troll?

I'm not sure you understand what a troll is. But no, I am not.

Your writing style is that of our resident troll.

No OP. you're the first person in the entire world to ever get stung by a bee. You should get a medal.

Seriously, this forum is becoming ridiculous. This sounds like a legitimate concern, and the OP is just trying to figure out a good tactic for dealing with this. We are at the point where we are calling everything troll, and it's starting to become ridiculous. If you think it's a troll, move on to the next post. If you have an answer to the question, it's simple. Get over yourself!

OP, I'm sorry. I actually don't have any advice. I'm just getting a little tired of these idiots that come on threads and call everyone a troll. Find a new hobby!

I agree that this doesn't sound like a troll post, but I honestly can't fault the people trying to call out the self admitted prolific troll. Its annoying that someone is doing their best to get people emotionally invested in their fake post trying to help, then they proceed to poke the flames. Its not OPs fault, or those posters' fault that this is what this board has become. Jeff isn't all that interested in getting rid of the trolls. He likes the traffic.

As for your question OP, I can't imagine what I would have done in your situation especially with an infant. I am allergic to bees and it would have been a much bigger issue.

You can't get stung 6 times by 1 bee.

OP here: I was very lucky in that this was the best possible scenario for getting stung by a bunch of bed while babysitting. But I only work as an occasional sitter and most of my clients have infants and toddlers. So now this incident has me thinking, what would I do in that situation?

If you had read the entire post, you would know that I walked very close to an entire nest. There were no stingers remaining in my skin, so it may be possible that it was fewer than 6 bees, but truthfully, the number of bees that stung me is irrelevant.

*bees live in hives, up in the air, not nests.
*how did you not hear the buzz of several "bees"?
*if there were no stingers in you, you weren't stung.
*you were probably only bitten by some bugs.
*why did you wait around for two minutes (getting "stung") before leaving the area?

It could have been a wasp or a gourmet or a yellow jacket. I don't know exactly what type of yellow insect they were and I don't really care. No I did not hear the sound because I was talking with my charges. The summer doesn't break off if your skin isn't very thick. I didn't stands around waiting; I just moved more slowly than the kids.

Stop trying to poke holes in a story to prove I'm a troll or some crazy be.

Ok so I guess I was wrong. It wasn't a honey bee that stung me... Their singers always detach but still who cares because it's not really relevant to the post.
