Nanny with only 1 childcare reference RSS feed

I am interviewing for a new nanny position and need to give out references. My previous employer were military and moved to Germany. This was 2 years ago and I have lost touch with them! I don't know what to do. I've been with my current nanny job for 2 years. They are moving in about a month to a different state and would be more than happy to give me a reference. I interviewed for a job on Friday and they just asked if I could give them an additional reference. I don't know what to say.

How old are you?
Give them any 2 or 3 references. It doesn't have to be childcare. "Character" references are helpful to. Ask people you know to write letters saying what they like about you. The older (senior) they are, the better.

Also you can volunteer to babysit for your neighbors and let them write reference letters for you. Or they can pay you a discount rate.

I had the same problem. I think you should be completely honest with the family as to why there is such a gap.

I am 24. I finished college last May. My job was only PT with the family who moved to Germany.

OP, I think you'll be fine. Gook luck to you. Don't sell yourself short. Good childcare is hard to find. You can see all the problems on this forum that so many parents are having with their lazy sitters.

Parents can't do well at their jobs when they don't have good childcare.

Be your best.

Do you have any babysitting references? What references did you use to get your first job?

Good luck OP!

No, I don't babysit on weekends or anything like that. I prefer to keep my weekends free. For my first job I used a weekend babysitting job as a reference. I honestly don't think the first family even checked my references though.

Use one or more of the babysitting references you used to get your first job.

Do you have anyone from college that you connected with? A professor?

If your last position lasted for 2 years, that's saying something and they are an important reference. Try to find someone who will be a character reference, and you should be fine. Good luck!

I had a short term nanny job, but that was almost 3 years ago. I've lost touch with the family. I haven't spoke to them since I gave notice 3 years ago. The hours were too much for me. It was 60/week and I was taking evening college courses .
