Trying to figure out what we can expect to pay someone for this? |
Depending on what you want and who you want, your range is $14-30/hr. |
30/hr give me a break! That is outrageously high. |
Obviously, we need more info (where? how many kid?) and there's going to be a range. Sometimes nannies ask for higher than average rates for part-time because they need to have enough to live if the hours are weird and they can't find another job to complement the part-time hours. In this case, however, particularly if you have flexibility on what the day would be, this would be easily complementing with another job. So I don't know that you'd have to look too much higher than average rates. |
The rates will be higher given that it's just one day a week. I don't know what your expectations for a nanny are, but you are looking at paying anywhere from $15-20 an hour. How many children do you have? Is it strictly childcare? On or off the books? I don't know many part time (1 day a week) nannies who are willing to do your children's laundry and cook meals, but I'm sure they exist. Post an ad on care.com or sittercity.com with a few more details and I'm sure people will contact you. Have you looked into joining a nanny share? That might be more affordable and give a nanny a chance to make some extra money. |
$15-$18/hr in DC, depending on the number of children. |
Of course it's high! Did anyone tell you every single nanny should be cheap or average? |
I charge the same rate at my 1day/week job as I do at my full time job, so OP you'll be more interested in the average rate for your job (location, # of kids, kids' ages, special needs or requests, etc.) than the difference between FT and PT rates. |
OP here. This would be for two children in Rockville. It would be strictly childcare. No cooking for kids (I would have all the food ready so may just have to heat things up). No laundry for the kids. Also walkable to metro train. The day would be flexible but once it is decided it could not be changed, but yes initially it wouldn't really matter what day it is. It would of course be on the books to the pp that asked.
To the pp that mentioned the 30/hr and then the comment that not every nanny is cheap. I think 30/hr is excessive and we simply cannot afford that so I really hope we end up finding someone to work for the average rates. Also it would be for several months till we need this I just wanted to get an idea of what people thought would be a reasonable rate. thanks! |
Find someone you want and ask her. That's the only way you'll know. |
Ignore the $30/hour crazy, she says the same thing on every thread. The fact that it is so part time and is temporary(?) may make it more difficult to find someone, however a lot of nannies work four day weeks and would be happy to add extra hours for a fifth day. Let them know in your ad that the day is flexible (Friday is often the day 4 day nannies have open). No laundry, or meal prep make it a very straightforward job, so I think all in all $15/hour is appropriate going up or down depending on her experience/skills. |
In your situation, OP, I would offer $17/hr.
Ignore the crazy $30/hr poster like the rest of us do. |
OP is allowed to establish her own standards rather than obey your stupid commands. |
Agree $15-18 for your job, OP. |
If you can be flexible on the day, you're sure to find a very happy person who is only working four days a week (or fewer) and would love to add that additional day. No housework, out in Rockville, public transportation accessible, just babysit two kids for the day? You could find someone good for $15. If it's 9 hours, that would be an extra $500 or so a month for the person. |
