I love my nanny and we are approaching the 4 year mark and I am trying to come up with the right answer for a raise. She is 765 net per week, 3 weeks paid vacation, one week paid sick, 40-42 hours a week, all fed holidays, usually 3 extra weeks of vacation from guarenteed hours, always a week yearly bonus. She cares for a 1.5 yo and 4yo (older in preschool 3 days per week). She does dishes and all family laundry, keeps house orderly, no heavy cleaning, no driving. I feel like we are at the top of our budget and may have another baby in the next year which would be another bump up-- and so I am thinking of maybe only 15 dollars more a week as an annual raise- taking her to 780 net per week. What do you think? Is this ok- is this just the natural progression of a long time relationship?

You could sit down and have a conversation with your nanny and let her know you want to give a raise but you also want to leave room for additional compensation if your family decides to have another child. If she's been with you for 4 years, it sounds like you have a great nanny/employer relationship so all you need to do is sit down and have a conversation. Wish you you best.

OP here. I think that she would "agree" to no raise at all since our rate is still high and if asked would probably say that something in line with her previous raises would be appropriate (but that is just too much now). With the past raises and probable future child bump, I want to be fair but reasonable-- and I think this is a decision I need to make, not one that we need to discuss.

If she's earning 765 NET per week, then a 1.9% net raise is perfectly fine. If she's making close to $1000/week for 2 kids, 40 hours, she's doing just fine.

I haven't gotten a raise in two years but I love my job and they treat me very well. A nanny's job satisfaction isn't just about the money. If you explain it to her hopefully she'll be understanding. Good luck!

OP, net pay doesn't matter -- what's her gross pay?

It irks me to no end when people to discuss pay in net terms instead of gross. It matters.

wow! that's a really generous compensation package! agree with your instinct OP to give a very nominal bump - something more symbolic than huge money.
