How much would you offer an 18 yr old for 2 over nights with a newborn. Mother will be in the house the entire time. She would need to pick up the baby from daycare and drop him off in the morning. There is a place for her to sleep, food is provided. Oh and it will be in the Centreville area. She wouldn't be expected to do anything but take care of the baby. |
Why is this person needed? Does baby frequently wake up and you need rest? Is this someone you would not trust with your baby were you not home? |
Family is currently interviewing nannies. The person is needed for reasons I don't want to go into. But it's a valid need. I'm a nanny fyi asking for a friend. |
If you are trusting her to care for baby, age doesn't matter. Frankly, I would not allow an 18-yr old to look aftet newborn. |
How many hours? |
I would not hire an 18 yr old for a newborn and sure as hell would not allow an 18 yr old to drive a child anywhere. |

Absolutely this! |
What are the timings? |
Hiring an 18 year old for a newborn... Pathetic!!! Maybe you're hoping to pay $50/night eh? You are disgusting. |
I worked with a newborn when I was 17. What is the big deal. I was well paid and I had been taking care of kids since I was 14. |

Well, to try to give you a helpful answer, night nurses/nannies make $25-35 an hour, easily. Daytime hourly rates can be dramatically lower, and, of course, 18 year olds would command a different rate than a professional nanny. So there's a pretty huge range for you to work with.
I think if I were doing this I'd probably pay $75-100 a night for full overnight care by an 18 year old, assuming I'd be way more "on call" and involved than I would be with a night nurse. I would have lower expectations of an 18 year old and less comfort so the pay would reflect that. I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable w/ the 18 year old driving the child, but I guess it's possible I would if I knew the teenager well. But that goes for the overnight care also. The benefit of overnight care is that the mother/parents can actually sleep and fully turn over the care to someone else. It would take a pretty special (EXTREMELY responsible) teenager to allow me to really fully disengage. I hope you have one of those! ![]() |
$100 a night, cash, assuming you won't be using her again and go over the reporting threshold. |
