I know this is very normal but it's making me nuts! 8 yr old literally ignores. Anything I say anything I ask her to do. Been going on for a while. I will repeat myself like 10 times then finally I have to call her by her name another 5 until she answers. I've talked to her about but no change. Any suggestions????? Helllllppp |
What do her parents do? |
Rule #1. Do not repeat yourself. The more you do it, the more she's being conditioned to ignore. It's a bad habit we have.
What kind of stuff are you asking her to do? |
#1- You must speak to the parents and be on the same page.
#2- Listening is NOT an option. #3- Let her know that you EXPECT her to listen and that if she chooses otherwise, she will have a consequence. Example: the next time she ignores you, stand I front of her, look directly into her eyes and say in a firm tone "I expect you to listen to me the first time and I expect you to respond to me when I call your name. If you do not do this, you will lose all television privilages for the rest of the day. Do you understand what I am saying?" Eventually she will realize that you are not a doormat and that she won't get away with this behavior with you. |
Pp here: do not repeatedly call her name or ask her two do something. You are teaching her that it is ok to do this. |
