That's because that is what a nanny is. Accept it, or move on. You are a paid employee in someone's home providing them a service.

The point in the help was that African American women in the south did not have other economic opportunities. Shame on you for comparing yourself! You have ample opportunities now compared to these women to find alternate employment and education. Women before you worked hard and fought political and cultural battles so that you would have these opportunities. Get off your butt!

Those women were stuck with very few choices. Even without knowing you, OP, I'm willing to say with confidence you have more opportunity to change your situation than they did. So do it.
