I just started a new position, and I am going to offer to do the baby's laundry. They are new parents and didn't ask me to do it, but I am willing and would like to put my best foot forward, as it were. So I have a few questions, as I have never been responsible for an infant's laundry before- only older kids. I will of course discuss these things with the parents, but I want to be knowledgeable going into it.
1- How often should I do a load? 2- Do you separate colors? It seems like the loads would be tiny then, but I have always separated colors for laundry. 3- Any tips for getting the stains out when the baby has a blowout diaper? I always rinse and soak the outfit in water right away, but what works best as far as products and methods? Thanks for any help you can give me! ![]() |
Depends on the family. I run a load every time there is enough laundry to fill one, other parents just want you to run it once or twice a week on a schedule. Just ask.
No, I don't separate. Baby clothes tend to go in a cold load on a gentler-than-normal setting but every parent is different on how they want it handled. Just ask.
Any stain treatment will be fine. If they're a natural-products family, BacOut is a good one (you want to treat right away and wash ASAP). If not...anything you see on the supermarket shelves is fine (Resolve laundry, Tide stain, Spray n Wash, etc.). They all do what they say they do, just ask what they prefer you to use (I'm sure they already own something, as they've been doing the laundry up until now). |
Use only "baby safe" products without dyes and perfumes. No regular Tide or stuff like that. |
I do my charges laundry. I started with them when they were 2months and they are now a year (twins).
I used to do laundry twice a week but now I can get away with once a week. I sometimes still do it twice a week because I don't like to put away a huge chunk of clothes. We use a baby laundry soap, dreft I think. Stain removal nature's miracle. I've never separated anything, just tossed in the whole basket. If I did separate it would be clothes in one wash than sheets, blankets, towels etc in the next wash. |
A cup of white vinegar in the washer has been the best poop stain removal method for me. |
I've been doing my charges laundry since she was 4 months old (when I accepted the position). I do her laundry every Friday (once a week) that way her parents have all clean clothes for the weekend. I do her linens once every two weeks: sheets, towels, blankets, changing pad covers. I do separate her colors from her whites. The loads are smaller but I'd rather not risk ruining her clothes. I wash on cold, with a gentle rinse, and change the soil setting to heavy. I use a capful of Dreft and 1/2 cup of vinegar in every load. This has worked great for us and I have no complaints. |
Oh my god this can't be a serious post. Use your head, OP. |
Don't be offended if they say no. I am a MB and I am so fussy about my kids clothes. I wash and dry and only ask the nanny to our away. |
Sheets for a baby should be changed at least twice a week. That is gross that you go two weeks without washing the sheets for the baby. |
+1 I change the sheets and changing pad cover 2x per week, EVERY week. It's the sanitary thing to do. |
