I generally work from 8 am to 5pm and has been with the family from October last year, however since the starting of the warm weather I have been ask to work until 9 or 10ans sometimes as late at 11pm. In order that the parents can go on date nights. I ws wondering do I have to be paid extra per hour for night duty and should the family pay for my taxi fair , since must take a taxi to get home? Should I say something or should I just continue to pay for the taxi from my pocket? |
yes, you should be paid extra for the extra hours worked. and if your hours go over 40 per week, you should get overtime.
it would be nice if your boss paid for taxi. you should ask! |
Yes to all of the above.
If your weekly hours go over 40, you should be getting time-and-a-half for any hours over 40. That's the law. When your boss asks you to say until 11, you should say, "DB I'd love to stay late and help you out, but it means I have to take a taxi home and I simply can't afford that expense." He can then either offer to pay your fare home or decide to come home on time and let you catch your normal ride home. Win-win and no confrontation at all. |
