Hello,

Some help with nanny rates please. Our current situation is we have a nanny part time and we pay her $13 per hour. This is her first nanny job and she's been with us for a year. I am going back to work full time and also we are trying to arrange a nanny share with a neighbor. As I said, this is her first nanny job and my first time employing a nanny so I would like some legit information.
Here are the vitals:
We are in Northern VA
We would need her from 8 - 5 Monday through Friday
My child is 14 months and our neighbor's child is 3 months old
She will not be cleaning or doing anything else, child care only

Please let me know what the 'going' rate is for this type of situation.

Thanks.

You don't need to post the same question in both places.

I think you got good feedback. $9-10 an hour per family is what's standard. You also have to factor in overtime if she is working over 40 hours a week.

lol shes hoping for lower responses

It looks like she xposted at about the same time, presumably hoping to get nanny feedback in the other one and employer-specific feedback here. No need to be rude.

I'm 16:55 and I wasn't being rude.

No, you weren't. The PP from 17:03 that I quoted was, imo.

OP here. Damn, people are stupid and/or suspicious. The only reason I posted two places was because I didn't know WHERE to post it. There isn't a forum called 'Nanny Rates'. For those who gave actual answers, thank you, I appreciate the info.

Where in NVa? Rate are somewhat higher in NArlington vs Loundon County.

My ballpark would be $16 an hour - assume $3 additional for the extra child.

$9/hr per family.

$9-111 per family is pretty common.

But I wouldn't do a nanny share especially with kids those ages with an inexperienced nanny. That's not a good decision, IMO.

Pp here: obviously I meant $9-11, not 9-111.

It would be grossly irresponsible for you to leave a 3 month old infant with your 14 month old with this woman who has such little experience. This is not an "easy" job. You don't seem to realize that.

What's the difference between a nanny doing a share with two families or working for one family with 2 children that would be different ages? It's not grossly irresponsible by the family at all. Their nanny has been with them for a year and according to OP has been great.

Then go for it!
