I do, we have the same coloring. I often get mistaken for their mother, and depending on how it's mentioned I try to make it clear that I am the nanny. However, sometimes I just let it go. MB, would you be upset if your nanny didn't correct someone every time they mistook your nanny for your child/s mother?

Are you seriously going to correct every stranger and passer? No. That's insane and unreasonable. |
MB here - no I wouldn't care at all. |
My charges and I do not look alike at all, are clearly of different races, and people still assume they are mine. I never intentionally allow someone to believe that, but I don't make an announcement everywhere we go. |
I am a blond, blued-eyed nanny who cares for indian-american charges. Recently a stranger commented, "Gee, your little girl looks just like her mama." I just laughed and said, "She sure does!" I have had these comments with every family I have ever worked for, regardless of how much or how little resemblance there actually is. |
You can't correct everyone. If I spend a while talking to someone, usually someone with a child around the same age, it will come up, but to store clerks and passers by I don't usually say anything. |
I resemble my MB! We have similar coloring/body type (though I'm much shorter) and we dress in a similar style. People notice the kids or the triple stroller and if I'm far away or they're seeing me from behind, assume I'm MB. Obviously these are people that know the family and we all laugh about it. But I'm with PPs, I mention it if it comes up but don't make an announcement every place we go. Usually the kids will speak up and say "she's nobody's mommy" which is what I jokingly say to them when they accidentally call me mommy (or daddy, haha!) |

I don't look a anything like my charges. I'm Greek with dark hair/eyes and skin and my chargers are blond/blue eyes. One time a lady passing by asked where my charge got his blond hair.. I just said "his momma" and kept walking. I usually just accept compliments unless I'm having a conversation with someone, then I obviously say I'm not the mother. |
OP again.
It just seems to upset my MB. If we are all out together, they assume the children are mine because MB is an older mother. She's quick to correct anyone, so I thought I should do the same. However, it's strange to just say, "Oh, I'm the nanny" at every single comment. |
Yeah, I'd correct people if I were with my MB. |
+1 |
well in the situation you described, yes as an MB I would correct them. If you were out and about with the kids on your own, no I would not care if you corrected them or not. |
I look nothing like my charges, I'm dark hair, brown eyes and olive skin. I am often described as exotic by men because of my cuban descent. I'm in a nannyshare and one charge is blue eyed curl dirty blond hair, the other is straight blond and hazel eyes. They are 6 months apart and look nothing a like. EVERYDAY i get comments on how beautiful my twins are...i just smh and say thank you. |
^^Oh and i should add that i get mean comments about being a teen mother. I'm 26 hahahha |
