Mt Vernon Alexandria - going rate? RSS feed

Anonymous
I am trying to get a sense of the cost of a nanny for two children in Mt. Vernon area. One DC will be in preschool five days a week from 8:30 - noon. I also have a seven month old. Both are in a center right now and I am trying to determine if I should keep the infant in the center and pay for aftercare for the preschooler or hire a nanny. Any thoughts on going rate would be helpful.

For a sitter, nanny, housekeeper?
Or all of the above?

Read a few of the other threads on "going rate" questions and prepare for more of the same.

I find that lots of parents don't really know what they want, except for someone else to babysit the kids.

how many hours per week?

OP here. Sorry - I should have been more clear. I want a nanny. No housekeeping - just watching the children. We need the hours of 8:00AM - 5:30PM. We currently pay about $4k a month for care for two children in a center. I like that both are together and I only have to worry about the logistics of drop-off and pick-up at one location. I'm stretched to leave to pick them up in one place as it is. The thought of driving to a center and an after-care program is a bit daunting. I was trying to determine if a nanny would be in the $4k a month range. Anymore than that and I'm not sure I would make the switch.

It would be approximately the same cost to get an educated (college), native english speaking, driving, experienced nanny for your children (at 9.5 hours a day, 5 days a week, at $20/hr would be ~49K per year or ~$4100 a month). This is assuming you want to pay legally, i.e. taxes and such. You might find the same type of nanny but with less experience for $18/hr, and could go a dollar or two lower if you were paying under the table.
