I'm pretty shocked.
No notice, no severance pay. I asked why I was being let go, wondering if I had done something wrong... MB got let go from her job over the weekend. She is pretty devastated, and I feel really sorry for her but now I'm pretty much screwed. She told me she wished she could let me go with something in my pocket but that the family just can't afford it now that she is unemployed. I am upset, I don't know what I'm going to do if I don't find a new job within the month. She offered to help me find a new job, and to give an excellent recommendation letter, which I'm glad...just wish I would have gotten some notice. I would have started job hunting if I knew I'd be unemployed today. |
Calm down. Next week apply for unemployment. She should have at least paid you for the rest of the week. |
I am so sorry. What field was she in? |
Law |
I have some quips about filing for unemployment. I guess if I have to, I will. |
how could you have had advance notice if mb lost her job over the weekend? I agree it sucks, but not sure what can be done. If they donthave the money , they dont have the money. |
I know lawyers that are up to their eyeballs in debt and live paycheck to paycheck. I'm sure she wishes she had some notice, too. |
Wow. MB is a lawyer? |
+1 Hope you find a new position soon. |
If someone is in debt, than they don't have the means to support an employee. |
What's your issue with filing for unemployment? This is what it is for.
The money does not come directly from your former employers. |
No. She works in the business aspect of a law firm. Or did. |
Because where I live people who are unemployed are looked down on as lazy "Welfare Queens". |
I have a mortgage. Does that mean we shouldn't have a nanny? What about if we have a car payment? Or student loans? Oh wait...I have all three of those, and we have employed nannies for six years. Guess I should not have created that job for the past six years seeing as how I have debt. |
