Hi all--we'd like to start providing health insurance to our nanny. Can you recommend a plan or insurance broker in Maryland that you use? Thanks. |
So happy to hear what you're doing; it's a wise investment.
Have you already checked with your own insurance agent for recommendations? How about asking the nanny? She may have someone in mind, or her nanny friends would know. You may want to let her be proactive; you can cut her a separate check every month, so you don't have to pay taxes on that money (in accordance with IRS). |
OP here--Nanny doesn't have a plan in mind. Hasn't had insurance before. Our insurance broker wasn't too helpful. |
I know there are threads like this w/ some specific broker recommendations but we just did this for/with our nanny and we used ehealthinsurance.com. It worked quite well. |
Call The Hammond Agency and speak with Karen or Nikki. They've been doing this for ages, pretty much know it all, and can get you on the right track.

Oh, and there is no fee for you or the nanny. They get their commissions from the health insurance companies. |
One thing to watch carefully. The laws regarding what is covered/not covered vary by state. So my health insurance (not based in the area) is fabulous. The plans we looked at for our nanny didn't include any of the many things that were routine for us or are extremely expensive. So make sure that you and your nanny read the fine print and understand what is covered. We have been going through einsurance, but they don't offer much help in selecting the plans, so I'm leaning toward trying a broker. |
