We are looking for a caring, quality nanny on a pt basis. We searched for 3 weeks via DCUM, neighborhood listserves, and emailing friends and connections for leads. We Hired someone and they totally did not work out, and we now have no childcare.
Salary is not an issue, rather we are finding a VERY weak candidate pool compared to FT. Person must be legal. Any suggestions? Should we try An agency? |
where are you located?
when are you looking for someone (ASAP?) how many kids/ages? when you say PT, do the hours change frequently? Do the days change frequently? |
Have you used sites like Care.com and Sittercity.com yet? |
Op. We are in DC, need person asap, but willing to find temporary fix while finding the right person. Set schedule 3 days per week, full days wed and thurs, half day fri, for 26 hours total. Set hours and days. 1 9 month olD child.
We have not tried care.com or sittercity, probably bc comments I have seen about it not great. Have folks had success with these sites for pt? |
I have. |
Hi I'm a full time nanny transitioning. You can email me at bethesda1nanny@gmail to discuss my qualifications but should you decide not to I think the best place to look is university list serves. This area is fairly perfect for finding a college student. I wouldnt do an agency. Good luck to you. |
You'll have to spend some time weeding out candidates anywhere, including Care and Sittercity, but there are some wonderful nannies available FT and PT on both sites. I'm not sure what scared you off but it is no trouble locating quality caregivers on those websites! |
I found one here on DCUM, and two on care.com. Do be prepared to do a lot of weeding out, but there are good candidates there. |
Thanks for all the helpful input! I will definitely check out care and sittercity. |
We had to offer a very competitive package to find a PT nanny. Found several great candidates, very happy with our current nanny. |
Pp, would you mind sharing what you offered? Hourly rate, benefits.....
Thx! |
You can also look for someone who might want to "split" a nanny - where the nanny works for one family a few days and the other family the other days. That way, you find a full time nanny. Again, you have to offer a competitive package, because most would prefer one family to deal with compared to two.
Also, you can join a share on a part time basis. I have found part time nannies through Sittercity, but definitely better luck with networking. Not the PP, but we pay $17/hr and contribute to health care monthly. Plus the usual 2 weeks vacation, 3 sick days and year-end bonus. All adjusted for part time schedule (so we obviously just pay the days she would have worked for vacation) |
I had a pretty bad experience with the candidate pool from Care.com. The candidates I considered qualified I found via flyers at local churches. |
Check out also go nannies.com, good luck! We got a great pt nanny through them. |
Try your neighborhood listservs, and the listservs of any friends in nearby neighborhoods. That's been our single most successful resource.
Good luck! |
