My MB is pregnant and this will be my first nanny job with a small infant. My charges right now are 6 and 3. I was curious if any nannys jog with their infant charges? I want to ask MB if she has a running stroller or if we could consider getting one, but I'm not sure if this is appropriate. MB is very, very laid back and I don't think it would be a problem as long as the other two are at school. Sometimes MB and DB get home too late for me to go out running after work because its dark and my neighborhood can be questionable. I won't bother asking her if this kind of thing is unheard of. Thoughts? Thanks! |
My MB and DB purchased a jogging stroller since they're both into health and fitness (DB's a Personal Trainer). They told me I can use it to go jogging in Central Park (or any other nice area) with the infant if I wanted to. She was 3 months when they got it. She's 5 months now. I've never actually used it though (mainly because I really don't want to, lol... I prefer biking and blading to running).
At any rate, if your MB is laid back, then ask if they plan on getting a jogging stroller if they don't already have one. If they do/are planning to get one, then they'll probably have no qualms with you using it. But if they don't plan on purchasing one, unless they come cheap around your area, then it might be weird if you suggest that they purchase one for you to use. |
It's not safe to jog with young infants -- I can't remember the age, but it's connected to neck control. So make sure to do your research before asking, so you don't look like you're putting your needs ahead of the baby's. |
Let them get you an indoor running maching. |
+1 There is only 1-2 jogging strollers out there that allow you to fully recline the seat for infants but it's not recommended to jog with infants under the age of 6 months. Please do your research. |

OP here, thanks I will definitely be doing my research! thats why i asked. was just curious if this was something other people did. Also, I wasn't going to outright ask them to get a jogging stroller, but I know they have a stroller that I've never used with the older ones and idk what kind of stroller it is. I was going to look into getting one on Craigslist. I don't mind paying since I would be using it. No need for the snark. |
^^ Wasn't trying to be snark, just realistic. |
I agree with the others who say do your research to make sure that it isn't detrimental to the baby in any way.
Also, if they weren't already going to be buying it (which they probably aren't since most people don't have jogging strollers) then you need to put the money out for it. Also, I don't know about your employers but I know that mine would only be okay with a new, unused stroller (not from Craigslist) and would also want to help pick it out so that they knew that it was going to be safe. |
Ew. Snob. |
They sold their double stroller on Craigslist and bought new car seats on it too |
Why? Because they don't want an unused stroller??? ![]() |
What's wrong with Craigslist? Seriously? |
FYI I buy things on Craigslist all the time but my employers would not appreciate me buying things for the baby on Craigslist. Of course even if I would buy something used for myself I will respect my MBs wishes and buy only new things for my charge. |
So your MB is so laid back that she just buys used car seats on craigslist? Does she know how foolish that is? Unless she knows and trusts the seller, those car seats could be damaged due to being in wrecks. And damaged car seats = damaged kids if a wreck happens with your charges in the car. |
