I was wondering if anyone on here is a certified baby nurse? After talking to one of the agencies that I am about to start working for, they suggested that I look into becoming a certified baby nurse because of my infant experience and also because it helps you land more jobs. I just did some google searching and there seems like there are a lot of websites that offer the training but I didn't know if there is one that is the "go to website" for this training. Has anyone on here been certified and is willing to let me know how to get started? Thanks! |
Is this the same as a Newborn Care Specialist? |
Yes, I think they go by both names. |
No, there is no baby nurse certification. The agency you spoke with, is really in the dark. Who were they?
If you want to be a nurse, you can go to school for that. |
Check this website for the official information on certification:

A nurse is not the same as a baby nurse. It is now called, Certified Newborn Infant Care Specialist (Baby Nurse). There are many postings online looking for a "baby nurse" but what they really want is a newborn care specialist. The name has changed over from baby nurse to that. |
OP here: Thank you for posting this. |
Become NCSA certified is kind of hard, you have to have 2000 hours of experience (in the last two years) of infants under 3 months, pass a 200 question test w/ 80% (I think) or above, and read 2 or 3 books about general care an sleep training methods. It's definitely worth it though. She offers her (NCSA approved) class through gentle ventures (you can Google it) and it is several hundred dollars for the class. Also, I believe it is actually illegal to call yourself a baby nurse w/o an RN. What agency are you starting with? |
Who is ncsa and where are they located? |
Pavillion |
Sorry, got cut off. It's Pavilion Agency. I'm not sure about it being illegal. I've seen many postings for baby nurses that say nothing about being a nurse however, I think it's switching over to being called an infant care specialist. |
I wouldn't market yourself as a Baby Nurse because it is technically false advertising. People who are Infant Care Specialists are great but are nowhere near being a real nurse. If someone was asking for a Baby Nurse you could maybe apply is you were an Infant Care Specialist and just specify that you aren't actually an RN, but an Infant Care Specialist. |
I'm almost certain it's illegal. Speeding is illegal but people do that all the time. |
If you look on any agency website that posts for baby nurses, you will see them say "baby nurse needed" and then for qualifications, they say you need a minimum of 10 references, a newborn care certificate, etc. NOTHING about being an actual nurse. There is no such thing as a "baby nurse" in the medical field anyways. There are pediatric nurses but not "baby nurses". I doubt a agency would post something that was illegal. |
Any clue? |
