Au pair's driving skills RSS feed

Has anyone had an au pair who arrived with very poor (almost non-existent) driving skills? During the au pair interview, my au pair stated that she owned her own car and drove daily in a huge city. This city's traffic is comparable to the traffic in any major city in the U.S. like NY, DC, Atlanta, etc. I have driven with her and her driving skills are extremely poor! Can't stay in the lane, doesn't slow down when turning, doesn't look for on-coming traffic, etc. If you have been in this situation, did you ask for a rematch or get her driving lessons? If you were an au pair with poor driving skills, do you wish that you were rematched with a family that didn't need you to drive or just given lessons and practice? TIA!

We had two like this in the past. With the first we paid for driving school and tried to give it time. However it was clear that it was not going to get better quickly. We ended up not allowing her to drive with our kids- which was fine since they were 1 and 2 Nd didn't need to go anywhere. The second time it happened we went in rematch quickly since we had preschool drives daily.

Good luck!

Driving here is totally different from driving in many other countries. In one country, if you bought a car you were automatically given a driver's license.
