What's your host mom philosophy?

We just started with our second au pair and it's got me thinking about the way I approach being a host mom. I have a lot of difficulty with bringing up difficult topics, which is something I need to work on. I tend to be very nice and giving and maybe go overboard with our au pairs on treating them well. It worked out great with our first and seems to be working great with our second, but they are both super nice girls who I don't think would take advantage of anyone.

Anyway, I'm curious - what's your hosting philosophy? How do you "manage" your au pair?
