Nanny should use her sick time off if she decides to stay home, like any other profession.

So let me get this straight so you want us to charge little to nothing to care for your children AND live in the most expensive part of DC too?! Yeeeeah screw that she need to stay home if the roads aren’t safe and she should still be compensated. Friday was crazy and there were so many accidents.

Actually some jobs are work from home or give the day off if it's bas enough. Its not a sick leave, it would be annual leave.

PP to whom you are responding, I get that this is generally the case, but we do not live in a high SES area. It's fairly modest, with home daycares and a few nannies mixed in.

What you consider fairly modest could be $700-1 million+ homes and a nanny cannot afford that. She'd be lucky if she's not married to afford $150-200K.

If the nanny had an office job, she would have to follow the rules for her employer regarding inclement weather. If she lives far away, she would need to find a way to manage the commute. Nannies don't get to make their own conditions for when they will come to work. Like many other jobs, it's not work that can be done remotely.

either I or my DH meets our nanny at the bus stop (about 4 blocks from our home) when the weather is inclement and drive her to our house. Then we go to work.

I live walking distance from my nanny family and we follow OPM status. If government is closed, I am enjoying snow day with my kids. You don’t like it ? Find a new nanny.

They sound completely self-absorbed, selfish + just inconsiderate.

It is rude of them to ignore your text messages to them (passive/aggressive much?)

And your Mom Boss had the nerve to tell you that YOU were the disrespectful one…??!
What is wrong w/them??!

It is entirely up to them to secure back-up childcare for when you are sick.

I would issue them my walking papers as soon as possible if I were in your shoes!

You are not a slave. Fine a new job working for decent people.

Imagine someone making more than the average US worker referring to the employer relying on them as a slave! You're most likely making $50k+ with no formal education, stop whining and focus on being a good nanny instead of constantly guilting the parents!
