OP here. Thanks all for the advice. We placed our child in daycare and presented the agency with extensive evidence that their overseas branch didn’t lift a finger to help out, despite numerous denials in a visa waiver country. We are getting all of our money back, as is our would-be au pair. Fortunately she found another family in her home continent to au pair with. Definitely not dealing with this particular au pair company again. Clearly unreliable and crooked.
