So you never want time alone as a family? I’m not judging I just can’t understand this. We have a great nanny when we’re both at work but vacations are for the family

We do have alone time as a family. Each day there are a chunk of hours when the nanny is off the clock. So for example, when we went to Disney World a couple of months ago, and the nanny came with us, we'd leave the suite by 8 or 8:30, get into the park around 9 or 9:30, and generally the nanny would either do the entire morning with us or the entire afternoon with us. Then alternate covering lunch or dinner. So maybe the nanny would work from 1pm to 6pm, then 7pm to 11pm so DH and I could go out to dinner. Or the nanny might have a day that's 8:30am to 2pm.

These people want the Nanny to travel with them over Christmas. They denied her request for time off.

That's the thing though.... they think they can. She isn't even a live-in Nanny. She's there from 8 - 4.

Entitlement.

Why are you friends with this family?

Oh, It's fading. Those poor kids are props.

Op here. The Nanny gave her notice. One month as required but she told them she will not be traveling with them at Christmas.

In turn, they told her she won't be needed as of Friday.

Not surprising.

OP, why is this horrid human still your friend? Understand that if she’d treat the woman who cares for her children so miserably, one day she will treat you miserably. People are, and should be, judged by how they treat employees (and especially nannies).

Good for the nanny. January is a great time to find a new job.

Her kids matter to me.

This latest came from the teenaged daughter. Step daughter actually.

I traveled w/a Nanny family to Disneyworld.

It was just awful.

Orlando hot + humid, crowds galore, lines for up to three hours, etc.
It was a second form of hell.

Any Nanny who doesn’t want to travel to Disneyworld is actually quite smart!
