If you want to keep her, same rate. You are choosing preschool but there are days off and sick days so she will still need to watch the older one and that is the salary you agreed to. Would you be ok with a reduction?

If you have her a $5/hr increase, then you can talk with her about reducing her pay by $1-2. If you can’t afford both a nanny and preschool, I highly doubt that you have her that significant of a raise though.

Nanny will still be responsible for school holidays, sick days, school breaks, as well as generally tidying up after the older one, laundry, bedding, etc.

As a nanny, I always consider the child in school as my responsibility and would not accept less pay.

Lastly, and a bit off topic, are you going from zero school to 5 full days? That is way too big of a jump for a little fellow!

Of course!

Of course... yet you want to reduce her pay? Hope you live in an area which doesn’t have many nanny jobs, or else yours is gone.

I have never heard of someone paying their nanny less after one child starts school. Sorry - you really can't go back.

The nanny is still expected to be at your house every day, all day. She is responsible for the pre-K child if s/he is sick, snow day, both kids' laundry , etc. Of course you pay her the same. She is your "insurance policy" in case you cannot take time off from work for all those "uh-oh" days.

my husband works a 2nd job. He tutors math 2 nights a week and half day on Saturdays. He loves it. We have a nicer life due to it. I worked a 2nd job, too, until I became a mom -- then back to one job. What the h*ll is your problem with OP getting a 2nd job to afford the nanny??

I am a nanny too. You gave her a option to share and she don’t want to. So if you can’t afford to pay her the same salary and school. Give her some time to find a new job.
