Not everyone works for feds and have the day off. If you want paid, you'd need to work at our house as if we don't work, we don't get paid.

I said when all federal and local government agencies are closed, everyone should stay home. That means if you work at Walmart too- I’m saying everybody should have a day off to be safe when inclement weather is here.

Couldn’t even imagine working for a family who expected me to come in yesterday. I stayed home and got paid. It’s in all my contracts that I follow OPM for inclement weather.

MB here. I texted my nanny the night before and told her to stay home yesterday. Today it's business as usual though!

I think it was safe for everyone to return to work today. That was nice of you to be proactive. I get not every parent has the luxury of following the fed. govt status but the parents who actually have flexibility and still don’t look after their nanny, those are the ones that annoy me. Like it’s a blizzard outside (not saying it was yesterday) and you guys have a 2 hr delay but still want me to arrive on-time.

My personal safety is a higher priority for me than money. YMMV.

You understand not everyone has that luxury??? Especially people who work at Walmart. It would be nice but many people don't get paid if they do not work or will get terminated if they do not show up.

Then, you are ok being terminated if you don't show up as that is the reality for many.

You are lucky. Most people who have jobs do not get paid if they do not work or they have to take leave.

Not lucky. Smart.

Why would I agree to work for a family and not get paid during holidays, vacations, and inclement weather. Usually if you are in the position to hire staff that means you are financially doing well. Just like families vet nannies, nannies should vet families. I wouldn’t work with a family who wasn’t financially stable and couldn’t offer paid holidays, vacations and inclement weather.

That is the reality of nannies who just take any position. Stop settling for families who don’t know how to employ others and set standards for yourself. Who would even work for families who don’t offer a decent package a least?! If the package consist of...
If you don’t come in you don’t get paid.
No paid holidays.
No paid sick days.
No paid vacation.

Who would take this job? Even daycare makes you pay them when they close or your child misses.

People who work at Walmart have nannies?

Again, I said when all federal and local government agencies are closed, everyone should stay home. This would mean everywhere would be closed! So, if a business is closed due to inclement weather, most likely, all employees would be paid for the day. I am not saying don’t show up for work if the govt is closed. It’s my opinion to ensuring everyone’s safety and so parents don’t have to worry about securing backup care and people risking their lives for a dollar. Who else should I break this down for?!
