Ok so being a nanny means you are definetely stuck with living with roommates and eating food from Aldie's forever. Also better make sure you don't have kids of your own to provide for SMDH.

Most nanny jobs in MOCO start around $25/hr. I know nannies in MOCO who earn $30/hr. You could likely find someone for $20-$21/hour who is just starting out.

Really?! All the families I ever saw or met with only wanted to pay between $10-$18 an hour. I ended up looking strictly in DC because MoCo families couldn’t afford to pay well. Where did you find jobs that were paying that much?

most nannies are on gov't benefits and only report $42K a year to stay on them. who knows what else they bring in from sitting, driving, uber, etc.

No regular American would take a $10 wage. That's super stupid. Even $18 is very low in this area.

I agree, hence why I’m asking where did they see/get positions that paid more in MoCo. Every family I spoke to and saw on care.com or even on this site in MoCo gave very low rates. DC was where I found my current position that pays what I required for my service and experience. Unfortunately, I’ve met several American nannies that make very low wages in my opinion.

I'd say that I've found my best jobs through word of mouth. Do you know anyone who would put your info on their neighborhood list serve?

I found them a combination of places, including word of mouth, listservs, care.com, and DCUM. The jobs are definitely out there, but I think a lot depends on match between family's needs and nanny skills. So it's not just about rate, it's also whether family would be good match for you (and vice versa).

In DC yes, this is where my current families have resided. In MoCo no, which is where I live and searched for jobs via care.com but the ranges were so low.

While I understand that, my first priority when looking for a position is rate. If the rate doesn’t meet my standard then I cannot go much farther with a potential family. As nice as some potential families have seemed in MoCo, I just cannot take $18 an hour before taxes and that was all I saw in MoCo. If there was an actual decent rate I saw, the family usually also wanted a lot of housework/chores.

I've never been impressed with careless.com.

Need 40 hours/week. 2 weeks vacation and 1 week sick leave/year. All Federal Holiday's off. Ranges I see are all over the place. We want to be fair and give her/him a good salary, but balance that with my income otherwise it may make more financial sense for me to stay home. Above all, we want someone who is going to be caring and keep our children safe. We were thinking around $20-21/hr (gross income).

You offer minimum fringe benefits and want to pay $20/he. Best laugh I've had since Brett Kavanaugh and his crying tirade!

She is very delusional. Taking care of a toddler and a baby together will make a nanny very tired. I worked in a daycare 5 years so know what I am talking about, hardest conbination of age IMO. Better stay home to take care of them yourself or take them to daycare. Why I tell nannies to work for wealthy families if you want to make it out here cause working for people barely making it themselves will result in near minimum wage pay. Also working for wealthy families means other staff to handle chores and resources to do your job in peace. Please nannies, wake up!
