On a regular job, PTO time is paid on the following paycheck, not before. When my sons take PTO, they receive it on their next check. Does this work differently for domestic employees? I'm just curious.

I have direct deposit and get paid while I'm away.

Does your boss withhold your wages when you use PTO? Are you just stupid or cheap?

Pay is on a schedule every 2 weeks. No need to deviate from that.

It’s not a question of withholding the nanny is asking for prepayment of PTO

Stupid. She has already earned her PTO! Pay her!

I'm quite generous, thanks. Merry Christmas!

We have direct deposit so she’s paid every 2 weeks no matter what. She got her holiday bonus in cash before the break (she has this week off every year since I’m off work too).

I don't want my wages until I've earned them, and that means that I get it at the end of my vacation, just like normal. I would NEVER ask to borrow money from my employer, so why would I ask for an advance on my wages (PTO is still wages).

I wouldn't have thought about paying in advance either. When I take PTO at my job, I get paid on a regular schedule. Pretty sure HR would have laughed in my face if I asked for the money in advance. We recently took a big trip, and my husband's job does weekly paper checks, not direct deposit, and he got all 3 checks after we returned.

Nanny here, never got paid once in advance for vacation or PTO. Got paid on time just as if I was physically working. Never gave it a thought. I don't get paid in advance when I'm working, why would I get paid in advance if I'm not?
