Extensions are not ideal, and nor is virginia for un-documented help. It is true about the driver's license not being issued but the insurance companies are even worse. Auto and homeowners will require documentation. They are not required to cover anything with regards to illegal residents in the US; so the liability is the killer.

Do not move to Arlington or McLean; Bethesda is the smart play.
