Neighbor and her nanny RSS feed

Good. This is a tricky situation, but no one should be in a position where she can not freely choose to leave a job.

They can't help the nanny at this time. Any other suggestions?

Yes, my original suggestion. Talk to the nanny. Make friends with her. Give her advice when she asks for it.

They are basically paying minimum wage to someone illegal. What are you wanting the family to do? I'm assuming the nanny gets it tax free in cash. If she were to work at a store or another place, that's probably all she'd make. If you call a lawyer or advocacy group, you risk her losing her job. That's pretty gross to have her fired when you are not offering to hire her or find her a new job. This is more about you than her.

I'm not trying to get this women into any trouble I'm just concerned about her well being. My neighbor has her working long hours for low pay and treats her horribly. I am not going to befriend the nanny and help her find a new job. She's very quiet and I don't know her outside of waiving hello. It's just the way her boss (my neighbor) describes how they treat her and it made me really sad for her nanny. For a boss to threaten with calling immigration if she quits is really low. I feel bad for the nanny but I don't know her past situations and maybe it's no better but everyone deserves to make a living wage and be treated with respect with the ability to quit whenever they want without being threatened.

Talk to the Nanny and ask her if she need help before making a call. Good to know there are people like you who is concern about what going around you.

Well, you can't do that by sitting at home and thinking about it. You have to either talk the boss about your concerns (you clearly don't want to ruffle those feathers), talk to the nanny and see if she needs your help (you don't want to do that either), or find some third party to intervene (do some Googling, call CASA de Maryland, or continue to do nothing).

There is no magic here. No way to help the nanny without potentially pissing off your neighbor.

If she is here illegally she is breaking the law. She can't expect life to be "fair" when she isn't being "fair" herself.

Walking a dog in cold weather is not unreasonable. I see dozens of people do it every day. We actually haven't even had that cold of weather yet this year.

I've seen lots of this in my area.

The super wealthy flashy women pay their nannies shit wages, and think they can because they're undocumented. Disgusting.
