6 months?

When I take a job (I'm not op) I take it for the long term.

My first nanny job was 10 years, second was 15, I'm now on my 3rd nanny job and it's 5 years and counting.

But hey I am paid very well for my job, I don't need to bounce around every few months for a "nest egg".

I know it is derailing this thread, but I am curious about this. Back when you first started with each of these families, did you expect you would be with them for that long?
As for my situation, I started with two families back in the summer of 2014. With both, it was just supposed to be one or two days a week of babysitting. But it has grown and grown and grown. Back when I first started with my two families, I thought it would last 4 - 6 months. Now here we are closing in on three years together and I think the families would like to keep me until the kids have drivers licenses.

I knew they would be at least 5 years. I am hired at the birth of a child, though I have a yearly contract, I choose my families on long term.
So I am there til kindergarten, at least.

Like in any career field, it's a mix of experience, knowledge management, longevity, creativity, education and outlook.

Don't work for peanuts, OP. You can do better than that.

Mom boss here. That rate is ridiculously low for that amount of hours. Currently we have an Au Pair and all in pay about $2000/mo, and she is capped at 45 hours per week. Tell them this.

But I don't understand the work hours- does this include sleeping hours, or are you on 7 days/week for 14hrs/day (not including sleep time)?

Another CA Nanny here.
$29/HR is really high to me....Even in our Golden State.

You must work in Beverly Hills, caring for six unruly kids & clean toilets as well.

I'm also from California and I have never seen those $29 and $35 rates. If I had, I would have worked as a nanny while saving up for grad school instead of working for a financial firm. Sounds sketchy that I would have made more money doing that.

$2000 a month with no rent is a good deal.

I'm looking at several positions right now. One is 280/day, 10 hours, 4-7 working days per week. Another is $4080 per month. Both are live-in. Good jobs are out there, you just have to be willing to research and be qualified.
